Licensing
QInsight requires a valid license to operate — without one, the application only prompts for activation after startup.
You obtain a Free license (personal accounts) or a Trial license
(organization accounts) self-service at
account.qenex.net. It is activated in QInsight
by entering a license key (format QNX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX) in
Help → Info → License; the activation requires an internet connection.
Personal or company account
The domain of your e-mail address decides the account type: an address at a public mailbox provider (gmail.com, outlook.com, etc.) creates a personal account with a Free license, a company or university address a company account with a Trial license. The registration form shows which account you will get; there is nothing else to fill in.
If you are evaluating QInsight for a company but have no company e-mail, get the Free license and click Request a company trial license in your account. We get back to you within two business days and convert the account: the license key stays the same and QInsight picks the change up at its next license check.
If your company has several independent departments on one domain, each may have its own account and trial license. The registration form tells you that an organization already exists on the domain — either ask its administrator for an invitation, or continue as a separate department. A license is valid for one physical computer; you can move it to another computer in the portal (e.g. when replacing a laptop). Several people may use QInsight on the same computer. Running one license on several computers at once, in virtual machines, or over remote access is not permitted.
Changing the number of computers at renewal
A Commercial license can be renewed with a different number of computers; the new count applies from the start of the next period and the license key stays the same. For fewer computers, mark the machines in the license overview with End with license period: they keep working until the last paid day, then their seats are freed and QInsight reports the computer as deactivated. The mark can be cancelled until the period ends. Immediate deactivation remains available for moving a license to another computer.
With a Free or Trial license QInsight measures for 30 minutes per start: when the time is up it switches from measurement back to edit mode on its own and writes a note to the log. You can start measuring again right away. With a Commercial license the measurement time is unlimited.
Every license includes the QFW SDK for your device firmware. It is the same for all licenses: source code, no activation key, no time limit; the limit lives in QInsight, not in the SDK.
Commercial license — price and purchase
The Commercial license costs EUR 825 per year and computer; Czech customers pay CZK 20,000. QENEX s.r.o. is not registered for VAT; the price is final. EU companies with a valid VAT ID are invoiced under reverse charge. The price includes QInsight without limits, all drivers, protocols, and Controls in the distribution, updates for the license period, and the QFW SDK.
How to purchase (organization administrator, directly in the portal):
- At account.qenex.net fill in your organization's billing details and choose the number of computers under Buy.
- Pay by card (the license is active immediately) or by bank transfer against an invoice due in 14 days (the license activates once the payment arrives).
- You receive the license key by e-mail; it is also in your account together with the invoice. Enter the key in QInsight under Help → License; download the QInsight installer (the QFW SDK is part of it) under Downloads in your account.
The license does not renew automatically; we notify you by e-mail and in the application before it expires. Renew it the same way in your account: the new period follows the current one and the license key stays the same. Academic license
Secondary schools, universities and public research institutions (institutes of national academies of sciences and similar institutions) receive four additional computers free of charge with one purchased Commercial license. The license is intended for non-commercial research and teaching; contract research for companies and spin-off companies use the standard Commercial license.
Procedure:
- Register at account.qenex.net with your institutional e-mail address. The account is created as an organisation account, and you can first use a Trial license for 60 days.
- In the Buy section, buy one Commercial license for one computer.
- From your institutional address, e-mail info@qenex.net the name of your department and the intended use.
- Within two working days we add a second Commercial license for four computers, with the same license term, to your account.
The department then has two licenses with two keys in its account: the purchased one for one computer and the free one for four computers. On each computer, enter in QInsight the key of the license the computer should belong to; the account shows the occupied seats of both licenses. The feature scope of both licenses is identical.
When renewing, you renew only the purchased license in your account; we then extend the free license for the same term. For a sixth and further computers the same procedure applies again: another purchased license, another four computers.
Internet connection
QInsight verifies the license automatically in the background. Every license requires the computer to connect to the internet periodically:
- Free — at least once every 2 days,
- Trial and Commercial — at least once every 30 days (also suitable for test benches and laboratories with limited connectivity).
If the computer does not connect within the period, the license temporarily stops being valid; once the computer connects again, the license recovers automatically, with no user action needed.
For computers entirely without internet access (test benches, isolated networks), the Commercial license offers offline activation. It is not enabled automatically — first request it at info@qenex.net and we enable it for your license. Then copy the machine code from QInsight (Help → License), generate an activation code at account.qenex.net from any connected device, and paste it back into QInsight. A license activated this way works without a connection until the subscription end.
Legal documents
Use of QInsight and the QFW SDK is governed by the QENEX Software License Agreement (EULA); the English version prevails, the Czech version is informative. What data the license service and the account portal process is described in the privacy policy — never your measured data.
When the license does not work
Check the license state in Help → Info → License — the dialog shows the status, tier, validity, and, for the Free license, the current number of communicated signals. The same dialog lets you re-activate the license with a license key at any time. Common messages and their solutions are listed in Troubleshooting.
